Can you recommend a good book?

I'm in vacation mode and am especially interested in fiction. I don't like romance novels, though I do enjoy relationship and coming of age stories. I like adventures, especially fond on solo voyages and the like. I haven't been able to stay interested in anything lately and I really miss getting lost in a good read.

Any recommendations?

Hi! I just finished "The Book Theif" by Markus Zusak and I guarantee you will fall in love with the characters and get lost in the way he writes. It's supposed to be a "young adult" novel, but some of the content is pretty heavey. Takes place in pre and post-war Nazi Germany and the main character is an 11 year old girl named Liesel.

Ugh. I tried posting a long list of recommendations and Blogger ate it. Anyway, here are a few of different genres that are great for vacations:

"Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro. Disturbing novel about the cloning, but every good.

"The Glass Castle," a memoir that still makes me mad. A good read, even if it's about rotten people.

"Sapphire and Garlic," another memoir about a former restaurant critic for the New York Times.

"Beach Road" which is perfect for escaping -- and being glad you aren't in the Hamptons.
